what we do+who we work with

we help change narratives and make communications more compelling.

we do this by developing grounded communications strategies with our clients, cutting through noise to analyze their performance, and linking them to a diverse set of creators to bring the strategies to life.

we typically work alongside the communications directors and their teams, but our work frequently crosses into other departments.

those directors and their teams typically work for foundations and other non-profits. we’re open to government and b-corps, too.

we only work with organizations advocating for environmental justice, social justice, or both.

our approach

we are imperfect practicioners of a non-extractive approach

a rare approach in the marketing+agency+consulting world.

inspired by the eco-restoration and regenerative agricultural projects we’ve seen around the world, it’s an approach to strategy and storytelling that considers the energy uses, power dynamics, and environmental and creative sustainability of the project.

badass and beautiful emerge when projects inch towards becoming non-extractive — stability, sustainability, and healing.

services

it takes more than creative to create like you mean it.

analysis. strategy. admin. & creative.

we are not a one-stop-shop, but we do offer an eclectic mix of services that have been thoughtfully assembled with your whole comms department in mind — no matter its size.

ask us about our variety of pre-scoped packages, or how engage with us on an hourly basis.

education

we want you to know what we know, and to do what we can do

our competitive advantage is that we share our advantage. for free.*

*we want this knowledge to spread freely, but there are costs associated with that. we ask that you cover travel+lodging costs for any in-person workshops. and for those who would like to pay an honorarium, you can do so to CLYMI or to jay’s non-profit initiative, RLENTLSS.

about jay

aye, i’m jay.

to change the story, change the storyteller.

in the past decade of creative client work, i’ve gotten to support dozens of environmental+social justice projects in more than a dozen countries change the stories.

my work has evolved over that time for all the normal reasons — more reps, more resources, and more talent around me. but the thing that has prompted the greatest changes in my work has been the change created within me.

i’ve closed the distance between me and some of the humans pushed furthest away, and their stories have changed me. the books and podcasts and films and art around me has broadened my perspectives and sharpened my comprehension of the interconnectedness of each. i’ve learned to hear the natural world and sway to Her rhythms, to strive to interfere less and less with Her delicate systems. finally addressing my addiction to alcohol, psychedelics as an aide to do so honestly. finally dethroning concepts of dominion, productivity, and hustle. finally choosing paths of meaningful resistance.

to change the story, change the storyteller.

we are made of stories and of stars. no wonder we make stories of them.

creators of constellations, as minuscule as we are. orderers of the randomly sourced, explainers of ways inexplicable.

imaginators and narrators, editors and curators. complexifiers. simplifiers. falling short in nearly every attempt to find our role in it all, questioning if our work is working at all, forgetting that if all we be are stories and stars then we already part of the source of the all.

wonder, the stars have made stories of us.
